Summer Lovin' - Hair & Beauty

Exams are over, the sun is shining and I have no university work to do! How great is that? Tomorrow I head off to France for a week so I thought I would share some of my essentials with you. This Summer, I feel like I've finally come into my own both make up and style wise. I finally know how I want my hair, have realised that I can get away with less make up and know what products are best for the warmer months.

I'm sticking to purely make up, nails and hair accessories for this post but soon you'll be seeing a little skincare one! This Summer for me is all about hair accessories. I love little bows. I've also become a major fan of flower crowns! This white one is from New Look and it's actually the first one I've ever owned. I was so reluctant to buy it because my beloved Katy Perry tweeted that she hated them, but I thought it was pretty, so I held my own and bought it. My pretty little scrunchie bows are all from Topshop. At £4 each (not taking into account student discount!!) they're a fab Summer investment and make ponytails look far more fun. I like to curl my pony and then pop in one of these.
Where nails are concerned, I'm past pastels. I do think that they're really pretty but I'm really into tropical prints and brights at the minute so the brighter the nails, the better. My top picks this Summer are a few from BarryM, their limited edition Blue and trusty Key Lime. This Neon Pink from NV Colour is my new favourite pink and Meet Me At Sunset is great for toes in sandals!
My skin has been terrible at the minute and seeing as it's warmer weather I am straying away from heavy foundations and swaying more over to BB Creams and tinted moisturisers. I bought The Body Shop's All-In-One BB Cream almost a year ago and hated it. I couldn't understand the praise it was getting, nor why it was priced higher than some BB creams I already owned. I now realise why. This BB cream, providing an equal covering all over your face, gives a radiant glow. It's your skin, but better. It's so lovely for the warmer weather and set with a pressed powder it lasts longer than my foundations. A summer must have! On my cheeks I've been using less bronzer and more peachy toned blushes. This Dream Touch Blush from Maybelline is a hero. I apply it with a Real Techniques contouring brush and it buffs onto my skin beautifully, giving a really natural look. Obviously my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is out in full force this Summer and surprise surprise, I can't get enough of it. With the BB cream, applied lightly under my eyes and on any blemishes, it's a dream. To finish off my glowing look, I've rediscovered Benefit's Watt's Up! My housemate asked me for some advice when buying highlighters and I suggested this to her, having not used it myself for months. It is a peachy gold highlighter and isn't too shimmery. I can apply a little of this all around my eye and it doesn't look too outrageous. It lasts all day and really perks up my face! I find that it looks brightest when applied along my cheek bones and on my brow bone. Lot of love for this wonder-product. I've been keeping eyes pretty minimalistic, applying only mascara. At the minute I'm loving bareMinerals Lash Domination
Lipsticks, glosses and balms are the most exciting make up product of the season. You can wear minimal make up, yet still look bright and fun with a vibrant lip colour! During the day time, I'm loving orange-toned products and my RiRi for MAC Who's That Chick (special edition, Autumn 2013) is definitely getting its fair share of wear time. This is an orange that I feel not many people dare to wear but it's soooo lovely on and as with all MAC lip products it glides on and lasts a good while. My new and unexpected favourite is BarryM's Cor Balmy in Trouble & Strife. This balm is tinted and has a moisturising core, packed with vitamin E and jojoba, set to nourish the driest of lips. I love this product. It gives the perfect wash of colour and is so easy to apply - no mirror required! This is lovely and I am definitely on a mission to collect all 5 colours. To keep my lips in tip top form after all that sun exposure, I've been applying Blistex Intensive Moisturiser, day and night. It feels so cooling on your lips.

What are you loving this Summer? Do we share any faves?
Love, Steph xxxx

  1. Love the photos in this post! I too love pastel nails but brights win for me during the summer months! I'll be putting a post together of my fave bright polishes soon, including a pink and an orange too :) I've totally missed the 'cor balmy' lipbalms but this looks like such a nice colour!
