The Battle of The Eyeliners

I've been oragnising my make up today and I realised just how many pencil eyeliners I had. I threw a few out as they weren't worth using any more or just generally rubbish, but I kept these four aside as they are my favourites and they're, in my opinion, most review-worthy.

The four consist of (left to right) No7 Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil in Black, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Perversion, Body Shop Eye Definer in 01 Black and Lancome Le Crayon Khol in Noir.

I will go through them one by one and give my general verdict at the end!

1. No7 Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil in Black
  • Cute packaging with smudger on the other end of the pencil
  • Easy to apply, not too scratchy on the eyelid
  • Sharpens well
  • Reasonable wear time
  • £6.50 - the cheapest of the four

2. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Perversion
  • Modern packaging - fits in with Urban Decay as a brand
  • Really does glide on - applies as easily as a shadow
  • No smudger provided but smudges easily with finger/small brush
  • Very dark colour
  • Good for a night out
  • Great wear time
  • £14.00 - more expensive but worth it for the quality of the product

3. Body Shop Eye Definer in 01 Black
  • Scratchy on the eyelid when applying
  • Quite crumbly
  • Requires a lot of product to build up a black colour
  • £8.00 - overpriced

4. Lancome Le Crayon Khol in Noir
  • Smooth application
  • Not at all scratchy
  • More grey than black, great for smoky eyes look
  • Great for day wear
  • Long wear time
  • £16.00 - good but I think that you're mainly paying for the brand

(Left to right, No7, Urban Decay, Body Shop, Lancome)

My verdict:

If you've read my Favourites page then you will know what's coming. My favourite is by far the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. It's pigmentation is so dark that you barely need to use any to get rich black colour on the eye. With a good amount of smudging it can also be used for a little less darker look and smoky eyes are easy to achieve with this pencil. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the product and it lasts ages. The others are obviously good too, or else I wouldn't have put them in my top four, but I do feel that the Lancome and Body Shop liners are overpriced and the No7 liner would be perfect were it just a little darker!

Do let me know if you'd tried any of these and tell me what you think or if you have any other recommendations!

  1. I'm looking for a new pencil liner so this was a good read :) which of these smudges the least...and I mean in a throughout the day way. All the ones I've tried seem to have run down the side of my eye at the end of the day, or smudged all over my eye and I want one that stays put nicely. An advice?

    1. None of them have ever ran for me! But I used Urban Decay Primer Potion religiously and I reckon that's probably why!

  2. ah brilliant, I use the MUA primer (cos I can't deal with having another expensive product that I get addicted too) so may try one out with that. Thanks.
